Getting into shape

As our little one continues to grow, I’m going to have to get back in shape to keep up with her. Therefore, I’ve decided to start working out so I can drop a few pounds. I’ve also decided to document the process on the blog, so this will be the first post in a new series on Dad getting back into shape! To organize all the posts, I’ve created a new Pumping Iron post category. I’m really a rookie when it comes to working out, so feel free to leave a comment with advice or encouragement. Teething

Uh oh, the baby has started teething and she’s not even 3 months old yet! Anyone else run into this problem? Most of the medicines or creams say they aren’t safe unless she is 3 or 4 months old. Soooo, we’re a little stumped on how to help her out. Tylenol seems to work okay, but we don’t want to give her that unless we really have to. One other product that looks interesting is the Amber Teething Necklace. Has anyone tried this out? If so, did it work for your baby? Looks like a cool option “if” it works.

Keep er’ moving

Man, sometimes it can be a major challenge to get the little one to sleep. You can see she is obviously tired, has been fed and changed but just won’t nod off. Sometimes it might be gas related, but sometimes it’s just a mystery…

For those mystery times, I’ve found a couple things that work almost all the time. Basically you have to keep the baby moving. As a first try, just pick him or her up and walk around the apartment with them. That is sometimes enough to calm them down. When it’s not, throw them in the stroller and take her for a walk. This almost always works. I don’t know if it’s the vibrations from the stroller being pushed on the sidewalk, but it works like a charm.

Now that it’s winter, you might not be able to go out on a walk with your little one. Therefore, another option you have is to put her in the car seat and take her for a ride. This also works almost all the time. Again, the motion or the vibrations seem to put her right to sleep. Do you guys have any other solutions for a baby that won’t sleep?

Checking in

Been a few weeks since I had time for a post so I thought I’d throw a quick one together. Does your baby suffer from gas? I know ours does. Does anyone have any good tips for helping with gas? We’ve been doing the ol’ leg trick, push up to the stomach that works sometimes. Also tried switching formulas, but we could definitely use some other techniques.

By the way, if you are looking for a swing for your baby, ours loves this Fisher Price one. We have an older model, but I think this is the current one. She loves the mobile and the music. The only complaint I have is that the swing is a little fast for a newborn.

The baby looks like I need a drink

Holy crap! What is up with all these bottle options our there. It’s enough to drive daddy to drink while he’s feeding baby. We’ve recently gone through a few different brands: Born Free, Playtex, Dr. Browns, Even Flow, etc… You wouldn’t think a bottle type would be that important, but it can make the difference in keeping you sane at 4am. First sleepover

So tonight is going to be our little ones first sleepover. Mom and dad are feeling pretty beat from sleepless nights, so Grammy and Auntie have volunteered to take her for the night. The big question here is… how will we handle it? Although I’m looking forward to a full night of sleep, I’m unsure if I’ll be up all night wondering how she’s doing. Are there any other dads out there with a few words of advice on this topic?

0-3 months my ass!

When we were awaiting the birth of our daughter, one of the things I had a bunch of fun with was shopping for clothes. YES! I’m a man and I like to shop! Anyhow, if you are in the same shoes, you’ll quickly learn there is tons of items you have never heard of. What the hell is a onesie? Not to mention, the sizing on all these clothes can be all over the map. That is the point I want to warn you about here.
